Accepting the Herald-Dispatch’s Citizen of the Year award

“An original member of the WV Peer Advisor Network, Margaret Mary Layne is one of the most requested advisors for two reasons: All her expertise is in areas every organization needs – board development, operational systems review, strategic planning, creating a development and fundraising plan. Secondly, she does a great job at all of them.

As a personal endorsement, the Morgan Arts Council had her come and do a two-day session with us in the latter category, developing a major capital campaign, and it was the most beneficial result possible. She led our board to understand we weren’t ready for a major capital campaign and helped us outline the steps we would need to take to eventually be ready. Saying “no” and having people hear it may be the most valuable consulting ever.”

“I’ve worked with Margaret Mary Layne for over twenty years on a variety of projects, initiatives, and activities. If you’re looking for some creative expertise for your organization - focusing on strategic planning, leadership development, project management, or community engagement – she has the skills to help you achieve your goals. A great value of working with Margaret Mary is that you’ll get specific, measurable outcomes that will help your organization move forward. I can’t recommend her highly enough.”

"Margaret Mary's dynamic approach to guiding a group towards positive resolution is inspiring.  She has a unique style of assimilating many ideas and collective input into a quick plan for action while highlighting each group member's strengths.  We look forward to our next opportunity to participate in her hopeful guidance.   Her vast knowledge and extensive experience make her a valuable teaching resource.  Our Board of Directors is more cohesive and focused due to the time we spent working with Margaret Mary."

"I first worked with Margaret Mary when I was a Trustee at the Huntington Museum of Art, and she was its director. I was amazed at the amount of work and dedication she garnered from the group of over sixty. I chose to engage her firm to work with the Board of the West Virginia Botanic Garden because of her rare combination of skills: her deep knowledge of the world of non-profits, and of the players in our state and region; and for the level of comfort she instills in those around her, even when challenging them."

Bill Mills, Executive Director
The West Virginia Botanic Garden, Morgantown, WV

We hired Layne Consulting in November 2016 to work with the HADCO staff and Board of Directors to help us update our strategic plan.  Margaret Mary Layne is a skilled facilitator who is extremely well organized, competent and focused.  The outcome of the work session she facilitated helped us to produce a well-documented strategy along with a set of action plans designed to help us achieve and track results.  She assisted our group of community business leaders to identify and prioritize issues and she kept us all on track.  I would highly recommend you consider engaging Layne Consulting for your planning efforts.
